Five Ways to Live an Intentional Life

by | Feb 2, 2017 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

Even as a child I thought deeply about life. Who am I? Why am I here? How did I end up with the family that I have? What kind of job will I have? Who will I marry? Essentially, I was in pursuit of a life that was intentional instead of one that just randomly happened by chance.

What does it mean to live intentionally? An intention is defined as a determination to act in a certain way. Living an intentional life means you make decisions with certainty and awareness of how those choices determine your desired future.

We must stop being passive! We are to be active participants and co-designers of our lives. God, the Master Designer, has called us to a life where we have the blessing of being fully aware of our decisions. He wants us to find fulfillment in living a life influence and impact for His good pleasure.

It’s a life where we are to love Him completely, according to Deuteronomy 6:5. The overflow of this love should produce a hunger and desire to live our best lives in honor of the Creative Master Designer of our lives. By living on purpose, pushing past adversity, and leveraging our gifts I am convinced that we can design a life worthy of the remark.

Lamentations 3:40 reminds us that as Remarkable Women of God to test and examine our ways. Are you living intentionally? Consider these questions:

  • What’s your vision for your life?
  • What are your long-term goals?
  • Why did you decide to work your job or build your business?
  • What are you passionate about in life?
  • Why did you decide to wear what you are wearing?
  • Why did you choose the foods that you did for your last meal?

If you can’t answer these questions with some thought, you’re not living intentionally. Don’t settle for walking through this remarkable life passively. Do you have a moment to grab a cup of tea? Remember, tea reminds us to rest and experience grace and ease as we build our leadership brand as Remarkable Women. Prepare your favorite tea and read below to learn how you can live intentionally:

1. Make Decisions. Sit down and select a direction for your life. Make choices and then act each day in accordance with those objectives.

  • What kind of life do you envision living up until the end?
  • What do you want to accomplish?
  • What do you want to own?
  • What kind of life do you want to live?

2. Evaluate your Behavior. Seek to understand yourself. Why do you do the things you do? Why do you fail to do the things you should do? Consider all of your chosen and avoided behaviors. Learn what makes you tick.

  • What motivates your actions each day? Are you moving toward short-term pleasure or avoiding short-term pain? Or are your actions directed toward an intentional purpose?
  • Before taking any action, big or small ask yourself what your intentions are. Are you heading toward the refrigerator to satisfy your hunger, ease your anxiety, cure your boredom or fuel your body in a healthy manner?

3Know your Core Values and Beliefs. These are your standards and principles that ground you to live this remarkable life intentionally. Considering your values and beliefs and giving them priority can make many of your challenging decisions much easier.

4.Know your Intentions for Each Day. Perhaps you have a broad intention of having financial freedom. A narrower intention would center on becoming debt-free. From there, you may have the intention of saving more money so you can pay down your debt faster. Your intention for today might be to avoid any spending that isn’t absolutely necessary.

  • Make sure to choose the right habits that will move you towards your intention for the day.

5. Be Proactive. Is your job ending in three months? Start looking for new job or consider building a business now. Women who don’t live their lives intentionally will wait until the last minute, and possibly run out of time! The Remarkable Woman learns to REST in God, pushes beyond the obstacles, rolls up her sleeves and makes it happen! She is not a passive bystander but an active co-designer of her life.

  • Be mindful of your intentions, thoughts, actions, and goals. Stay fully present in the moment! Be vigilant and alert at all times!

This kind of living takes a great deal of thought and work. But, you don’t have to go at it alone! God will provide you with the wisdom, strength, and creativity.
